On behalf of The Leadership Institute for Women of Color Attorneys, I invite you to join us in Atlanta on March 5th and 6th for our 9th Annual Conference. This year’s theme is “ Leadership – Women Are Visible and Continue to Break Barriers.” We are pleased to announce that the keynote luncheon speaker for 2014 is Teresa Sebastian Mosley, vice president and general counsel, Darden Restaurants, Inc. Paulette Brown, unopposed president-elect of the American Bar Association and partner, Edwards Wildman Palmer LLP will have a conversation with Dr. Jane Smith, executive director, LEADS of Spelman College. Informative panels include the popular “More War Stories of Women of Color Attorneys;” and a new group mentoring workshop on “Securing, Keeping and Growing Your Branding” led by some of the most successful women of color shareholders, general counsel and leaders in government will be introduced this year.
LIWOCA continues its commitment to women of color law students, high school students and college students pursuing legal careers. Our successful partnership to fund scholarships with McGuireWoods has raised over $120,000 in the past 9 years.
Our partnership with the State Bar Diversity Program and Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School that sponsors the High School Pipeline enters its 7th year. High school students continue to thrive who are taught grammar, writing and speech. Volunteer attorneys teach speech classes, provide mentoring on various topics of interest including Dining Room Etiquette, Social Media Etiquette, Credit 101, How to Prepare for College, Preparing for A Job Interview and much more. Over 120 students have participated in the program since its inception and LIWOCA has raised more than $12,000 in scholarships for the Pipeline graduating seniors.
Lastly, panels for our law student track will feature law school deans, financial experts and young associates who can share their own “war” stories.

We have a full agenda of valuable programming planned for you today. Our keynote luncheon speaker, Anna-Lisa Corrales, general counsel and secretary of Jaguar Land Rover and our keynote Networking Reception speaker, Phyllis P. Harris, senior vice president and chief compliance officer at WalMart will be presenting. Additionally, Ruthe Catolico Ashley, Paulette Brown, Marla Butler, Charmaine Slack, Hassia Diolombi, Joanna Garcia and Dawn Siler-Nixon will present during the Opening Plenary session. During the afternoon break-out sessions, representatives of the Federal District Court, the Hon. Mary Scriven and
the Hon. J. Michelle Childs, will share their experiences relative to using their J.D. in the public sector.
LIWOCA continues its unwavering commitment to fueling the Pipeline. Five students will each receive a $3,000 scholarship to help fund their legal education compliments of our scholarship sponsor McGuireWoods during the scholarship luncheon sponsored by DLA Piper US. Our student track will feature Law School Deans to guide college students and first year law students in their pursuit of a legal career. We look forward to another year of networking, mentoring, training and seizing business development opportunities.
